Our Mission

Arbutus Middle School embraces the challenge of ensuring success for every student. We strive to create opportunities for all students to experience academic, personal, civic, social, and vocational growth. We work together as a school community to provide a visibly safe, disciplined, inviting, and nurturing environment. At Arbutus Middle School, we believe that middle school is a time when students grow as creative and critical thinkers. Our mission is to help our students develop into life-long, 21st century learners.

OUR Vision

Arbutus Middle School students will have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to reach their potential as middle level learners and be prepared to participate in their high schools and communities as responsible and productive 21st century learners and citizens.

6th Grade Parent Information about Student Devices
In order for AMS to give a device to your 6th grade student, a parent or guardian must attend a technology information session at AMS.  The training takes approximately 15 minutes, and at the conclusion of the training you can sign the Technology Device Student Agreement Form.  We cannot issue a device prior to this training being completed and having the signed agreement on file.

You can stop into AMS during regular school hours anytime this week or next week and attend an individual training in the Guidance Office or with Mrs. Jackson (6th Grade Team Leader).

So far, we have distributed over 280 devices to sixth grade students and we need to pass out approximately 10 more devices to make sure 100% of 6th graders have equitable access to technology.  Please come in and complete the training today to help us achieve this goal.

 AMS Emergency Procedures
To provide for the safety, security and well-being of students, staff, parents and community members during emergency situations, we have established procedures and routines which we practice throughout the school year, including evacuations, as well as emergencies that may occur within the building (fire drills, lock-downs, severe weather drills, rally point drills). The school has also established an emergency team, of which members address when necessary triage and communication to those outside of the school to inform parents and secure the needed support in the event of an emergency. Should students be evacuated for an extended amount of time, we will convene at Arbutus United Methodist Church or Arbutus Elementary School, dependent on the length of the emergency.  In any case, a call will be placed to families of students of where to pick-up students.  Please be sure to have proper identification to pick-up students.
