Our Mission

Arbutus Middle School embraces the challenge of ensuring success for every student. We strive to create opportunities for all students to experience academic, personal, civic, social, and vocational growth. We work together as a school community to provide a visibly safe, disciplined, inviting, and nurturing environment. At Arbutus Middle School, we believe that middle school is a time when students grow as creative and critical thinkers. Our mission is to help our students develop into life-long, 21st century learners.

umbc community partnership

Arbutus Middle School has collaborated with The Shriver Center at UMBC and the MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA program for the past two years through an after-school program called, "Arbutus Achievers." In addition to the creation of this after-school program, the purpose of this partnership is to strengthen our community relationships while involving as many community members as possible. AMS and The Shriver Center at UMBC are now looking to expand this partnership to better incorporate the families of AMS students. We would like to work with AMS families in ways they feel would be beneficial to themselves and the AMS community. In the past, a representative from The Shriver Center at UMBC has presented an informal workshop on cyber bullying and would be willing to provide future workshops or resources on any topic identified by an AMS community members. Some topics that have been discussed are college access, summer enrichment opportunities, tax preparation and college programs for students with intellectual disabilities. If you have any ideas on ways AMS and UMBC can continue to work together in a collaborative manner, please contact Nicholas Ramundo, the MDCC AmeriCorps VISTA at nramundo@umbc.edu.

Parents - Please take the following SURVEY to let us know if you would be interested in attending an informal workshop on topics such as College Access, Cyber Bullying, Financial Literacy, etc.  Your input is valuable and we look forward to hearing from you.
