Our Mission

Arbutus Middle School embraces the challenge of ensuring success for every student. We strive to create opportunities for all students to experience academic, personal, civic, social, and vocational growth. We work together as a school community to provide a visibly safe, disciplined, inviting, and nurturing environment. At Arbutus Middle School, we believe that middle school is a time when students grow as creative and critical thinkers. Our mission is to help our students develop into life-long, 21st century learners.

Parents - Next year our school will shift to a 90 minute block schedule.  This means that your child will have 4 classes per day for approximately 90 minutes each period.  He/she will still have a 30 minute lunch.  This schedule is very different from our current 45 minute / 7 period schedule.  We value your opinion and would like you to provide feedback on the proposed schedule change.  Please take the following survey and express your ideas and concerns.
Parents who wish to set up for their MyBCPS Account so they can track their child's grades can contact Mr. Whitby at dwhitby@bcps.org to request a Parent Verification Code.  Further BCPSOne support for parents can be found at https://bcpsone.bcps.org/support/faq.aspx
Microsoft Office 365 - Current BCPS Students and their families are eligible to download up to 5 copies of Microsoft Office 365 on personally owned devices.  See this Parent Information Letter for more details.  Also, see this step-by-step guide for detailed installation instructions.
 AMS Emergency Procedures
To provide for the safety, security and well-being of students, staff, parents and community members during emergency situations, we have established procedures and routines which we practice throughout the school year, including evacuations, as well as emergencies that may occur within the building (fire drills, lock-downs, severe weather drills, rally point drills). The school has also established an emergency team, of which members address when necessary triage and communication to those outside of the school to inform parents and secure the needed support in the event of an emergency. Should students be evacuated for an extended amount of time, we will convene at Arbutus United Methodist Church or Arbutus Elementary School, dependent on the length of the emergency.  In any case, a call will be placed to families of students of where to pick-up students.  Please be sure to have proper identification to pick-up students.
